‘Tis the season of… Diwali!

Happy (belated) Diwali everyone!

This Diwali was very fun (and more social than any other Diwali).

We went to my uncle’s house to meet the family (you know, it’s Diwali after all) and having done a good photo session, we exchanged gifts, received blessings from our elders, and in all, had a good family reunion. Afterwards, we left kind of early since it was getting late and we had to light diyas back home, as the Diwali tradition goes.

On our way back, we stopped by Moti, a restaurant in Malviya Nagar, where I usually get my favourite sandwiches with chips. Having done so, we returned home in a big hurry and made it back before sunset. First thing after getting home, we placed all the 100 diyas all over the house, after which we finished with the puja with the dholak-wala, adding to this finale.

Now having finished with the puja in a spectacular manner, we were about to take the (only few) crackers that we had, when out of nowhere, Band-Baja people came, lighting up the mood. Not even a second in, we all had started dancing to the tune in a blissful joy that had overcome us making this one of the unique moments I had spent with my family – knowing I don’t really dance very often. After a while, a bunch of kids came about asking for sweets and crackers. After they all left, we finally had some time to burst the crackers.

Screen Shot 2017-10-22 at 4.59.07 PM

Amma had bought a small box (about 3 inches in size?) of the small crackers which would make a sound when thrown hard on the ground. Everyone took out one threw it hard. PATT! PATT! PATT PATT!! But, when I tried throwing it, no matter how hard I threw it on the ground, it would land slowly on the ground. I know it doesn’t make much sense, but hear me out. I picked it up and threw it again and again and again, but no matter what, the outcome remained the same. Seeing that, my brother laughed at me, saying that it was an empty one. I facepalmed myself while laughing and threw it away, even harder. To everyone’s surprise, this time it burst. *EpicFacepalm*

epic-facepalm-when-you-just-know-you-messed-up-demotivational-poster-1253705267

Moving on, I took many of them in my hand and threw them all at once, which was very fun. We burst the remaining few crackers until they were all exhausted.

A few moments later, our neighbour, Pooja aunty had come to wish us with sweets. She offered that we all burst crackers along with her, on their rooftop as they had bought more than enough crackers for them to burst alone. So, since Amma was busy cooking dinner and Baba was helping her, my brother and I went there. We made many different experimental combinations to burst the crackers. For an instance, burning the chakri, which will burn the anar which has been placed between 2 bottles containing 4 whistle rockets, which will burn the said rockets, in this very order. Pooja aunty and her son, Kabir, really liked it and were excited, while Uncle took precautions like putting a bucket full of water beside us, saying, ‘in case you plan on doing something dangerous’. By the time we were finished, it was 10pm and we very very hungry, so we bid farewell and left for a very yum dinner which concluded the day.

This Diwali was the brightest, best, action-packed, social and fun Diwali we ever had!

I hope to make the next one even more so!!

Happy Diwali again! ❤ 😀

The Dog we all love

Not that this event was unusual, but is something worth writing about.

There we were, walking back and forth the road which was right in front of our house. The 4 of us went for walking last night after dinner. The weather was pleasant; neither too hot nor too cold.

I, unlike the weather, was a bit irritated.

There is a family of 5 street dogs that are in charge of the area we live in. We would feed the dogs with the remaining bones from whenever we eat chicken (that is, about twice a week). The family of dogs became our friends. They would come to us whenever they see us, then they would sit right in front of our gate, indicating that they were hungry. One of them (the youngest one) was walking along with us. He was a bit shy, but he understood most of the stuff we say.

He seemed to have a small injury on the rear-right leg.

He would walk ahead of us, then stop to scratch or lick himself, then the moment he sees that we are overtaking him, he would run all the way ahead of us again, and keep repeating the same thing over and over again. Whenever he ran ahead of us, he would go from right under my hand, wanting me to pet him. Whenever we walk past our house, he would sit in front of our gate, thinking that any one of us will go inside and get him something to eat.

Even though he had an injury on his leg, he ran around happily; not thinking about the pain, but thinking of how he would run past us, play with us, eat something tasty and have others pet him. Thinking of that made me feel happy. As a reward, I pet him in the way he likes.

He gave me the lesson to not to think about the things I don’t like, but to think about the things I love.

Google Celebrates its 19th Birthday with this Surprise Spinner!

Google is celebrating its birthday in perhaps the most Google of ways: with a Doodle that lets you play through the most fun Doodles ever.

The company is now 19 years old (or is it?) and so has a huge stock of entertaining and time-wasting little animations to play through. So it has selected the best of recent years and assembled them all into the meta-Doodle, which lets people use a spinner to find which of the Doodles to play.

Using the Doodle is simple enough: you head to the Google homepage, click on the spinner, and opt either to play the option you’ve been given or have another go. But read on, because there’s a major catch.

In some cases, they’re actually better than the times they were Google Doodles. That’s because the company has made them full screen this time around, allowing you to see everything you’re doing without all that bothersome Google branding getting in the way.

For most people, picking through the games is an initially fun but quickly tiresome game of chance: you keep spinning and are just as likely to repeatedly get a rubbish game as you are to get the one you enjoy.

We’ve spun the spinner so that you don’t have to. Instead, you can just click through the list of Google’s highlight at your heart’s content.

Pac Man:

One of the greatest games and greatest Doodles, this is also the oldest on the list. It’s such a classic that you don’t even need to use the link – instead, you can just search “Pac Man”. And if you do, you’ll get all the delights you expect – a fully and faithfully recreated version of the classic game, right in your Google results.

Birthday piñata:

Created to celebrate Google’s 15th birthday, in 2013, this is a stunningly addictive game where all you do is hit a piñata. The idea is simple, but the execution isn’t, and the game tests your timing to see how much damage you can do. (It also tests your ability to eventually close and stop playing the game.)

DJing:

One of the few Doodles that isn’t a game, this is still an incredibly interactive – and fun – Doodle that gained plaudits when it was released. It’s not only an entirely interactive set of decks that allow you to scratch and mix a range of tracks, it’s also an educational and interesting trip through the beginnings of hip-hop.

Theramin:

Created to celebrate and commemorate the great of the instrument, Clara Rockmore, this theramin also has the advantage of being both incredibly fun and a little educational. It’s not only an entirely beautiful-sounding and interactive recreation of the theramin, you also get to learn about the life of Ms Rockmore and how to play a little tune.

Arpeggios:

The last of the musical experiences – and probably, to be honest, the most boring – this game allows you to look at the way chords and arpeggios work. It’s beautifully crafted and interesting, especially if you’re keen to learn about songwriting or musical theory. So it’s worth giving it a try – but you’ll probably not have as much fun as when you’re playing the two above. What you can do, however, is click through from that same page to Google’s Chrome Music Lab – and in there you’ll find a huge range of different, strange musical experiments.

Scovile scales:

This Doodle was created to honour Wilbur Scovile, the man who created the measurements for how hot chilis are. And the game sort of commemorates that, by showing the scientist eating a chilli and then cooling his mouth down with ice cream. But that’s where it all gets weird – you’re then taken to a strange game where you have to throw ice cream at a chilli pepper with good enough timing to undo its heat. It’s as fun as it is weird – and you get to learn some great chilli pepper facts on the way.

Hallowe’en spells:

Google’s Doodle for Hallowe’en last year took a distinctly cute and Harry Potter-esque game that taught you to use spells and make your way through a library. Play it – if you dare.

Cricket cricket:

This game, created to celebrate the ICC Champions Trophy, lets you play cricket as a literal cricket. Recalling the golden of stick cricket, it’s incredibly addictive.

Earth day quiz:

This is probably the least interactive of the doodles, and the most, unlike a game. But that doesn’t stop it being enjoyable: the quiz aims to find out what animal you’re most like, by asking a series of more or less revealing questions.

Minecraft console commands and cheats

Hard work: if it’s not for you, there’s always cheats and console commands. What better way to conquer the sprawling sandbox that is a Minecraft world than by pulling up the command bar, typing in some words and symbols and magic-ing yourself up a prissy clippy-cloppy pony with diamond armour?

How do you enter Minecraft commands?

Thankfully, Minecraft console commands are wonderfully simple to use. When creating a new Minecraft world you’ll be prompted to choose whether or not to allow cheats. After selecting yes and loading up the world, you’ll need to press the “C” key to pull up the command bar, which is where you’ll be inputting all your cheats and commands.

Any command you enter in single player will need to be prefixed by forward slash (/); multiplayer commands will not work with this prefix. Now it’s just a simple case of typing in the desired command and hitting the “Enter” key.

The Uncanny Resemblance Between Baahubali & The Lion King

Baahubali is a magnum opus like no other. It is one of the rare movies, which have been lauded by one and all.

While on the one hand, India is celebrating the success of the movie for its originality, some people on Twitter think that the movie has drawn some major inspiration from the Disney classic The Lion King, and if not that, there is some uncanny resemblance between the two films. Either way, it cannot be ignored.

Either way, it cannot be ignored.

What may be noted here is that the Disney film is also a cinematic adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. But why there’s so much fuss around it? Because there are, indeed, some similarities!

1. The big introduction

Baahubali 2, The Lion King

2. The scar and the exact way in which it rests on the face

3. The wise man with the white beard

4. Also, the lead characters are raised by families they are not related to in both the films

5. The well-timed introduction of the love interest

Food Review: Machan, Nainital

machan-restaurant

We had gone to Nainital to meet my Dad’s Friend, who is apparently his master/guru and he had taught him photography about 20-30 years back. So, he had built a large beautiful house (or I’d rather say mansion; it’s really big!) in Nainital, and it’s construction was completed not long ago, and so we went to see how beautiful the house was.

During our trip we stopped at Machan, which we have visited plenty of times before also, while the house was being constructed (yes, we went to Nainital lots of times before).

They have been ranked #2 of 32 Restaurants in Nainital!

I didn’t take many photos at Machan (I forgot about it -.-“), so not much material.

Anyways.

Everyone knows I love Chilly Chicken more than anything, I, obviously, ordered it and a Chilly Chicken Pizza!

Chilly Chicken! ❤

Everything was more than tasty!! ❤ [Though the Chilly Chicken Pizza (or rather “The Pizza”) took longer than expected. So I had a Butter Naan along with Shahi Panner during that time, which were also very tasty]

The Pizza was pretty heavy (as in, it fills the stomach fast) so we had to get it packed, but the packing guy took about 20 minutes to pack 3/4th of a pizza (I already ate 1/4th of it).

WhatsApp Image 2017-05-12 at 10.41.44 PM.jpeg

On 12th May was Mom & Dad’s Engagement Day <3.

We thought that something special was to be done. So, we planned for a dinner at Ambience Mall or any such place, where there are food courts which include everyone’s ideal dinner.

But…

We were so busy talking that we took a wrong turn and ended up at Supermart-1.  -.-”

So we thought, “Okay, then let’s eat at Wai Yu Mun Ching!”. This place has been tried and tested well before.

Crispy Honey Chilly Chicken (my favourite!) for starters.

Chilly Hot Garlic Chicken Noodles (I know, it’s a very long name) for Main Course.

Chicken in Hot Garlic Sauce for sides (well, it is pretty spicy).

Chilly Hot Garlic Chicken Noodles again. It’s definitely spicier than Chicken Hot Garlic Noodles which we usually eat.
